Two VDCs declared ODF in December 2014

Saurpani VDC achieved 65th VDC ODF status, being the second last VDC in Gorkha district to make this achievement. This is one of NEWAH's WASH programme VDC. Padsari ODFThe declaration took place on 3 December 2014 amidst a large crowd of community people, representatives, government /non government stakeholders and media persons from the district and VDC, who had gathered to witness this historical moment. There are 1307 households in the VDC and all households are using a toilet. Out of the total HHs, 1292 have improved toilets while 15 HHs are constructing an improved one.

Likewise on 27 December 2014, Padsari VDC of Rupandehi district where NEWAH is managing the Suaahara (nutrition) programme was declared an ODF VDC. Thousands of local people including students, FCHVs, mothers groups members, WCF/CAC members, banking staffs, entrepreneurs, political leaders, local organizations representatives, V-WASH CC members, health facilities staffs etc. were out on the road to join the rally welcoming ODF and Full Immunization Status declaration event. The main slogan of the rally was KhullaDishamuktaSamaaj, PadsarikoShaan PurnaKhopyuktaBalbalika, HamroAbhiyan. Padsari is the 13th VDC declared ODF in Rupandehi district comprised of 50 VDCs, 5 municipalities and 1 sub-metropolitan cit,. Unity for Sustainable Community, a local implementing partner, was appreciated for their role in the ODF campaign.
