Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH) is a national level non-governmental organization (NGO) that specializes in drinking water, health promotion and sanitation. Established in 1992, it had worked actively in partnership with local NGOs. Since 2011 after the rollout of National Sanitation and Hygiene Master Plan it has been working actively in partnership with local government to serve poor communities securing basic needs of water and sanitation, strengthening the capacity of these partners to undertake further development activities. It has an executive body comprising of 7 members and is affiliated with the Social Welfare council - the governing body of NGO sector in Nepal and is registered with District Administration Office Kathmandu.

NEWAH operates in selective districts of Nepal from the East to West through its three regional offices located in three development regions (Eastern, Central and Western region) of the country with the support of more than 199 professional regular staff. The community receives financial, technical and capacity building support from NEWAH. So far, NEWAH has worked in 51 districts of the country serving over more than 1.8 million people (estimated to be 6.9% of the national population) through 2077 projects working in partnership with local partners (As of June, 2015).  Please click here for the detail.

Social inclusion and equity is promoted all across NEWAH (both at program and organizational level) by adopting an approach of Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI). Although most of its work is carried out in rural areas, it is gradually trying to extend the services for the rapidly expanding semi urban poor. NEWAH perceives itself as a 'Learning Organization' and continues to increase its focus on innovative and low cost alternative technologies, approaches as well as learning around water and sanitation such as Fog Water Collection, Rain Water Harvesting, Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), SaniMart, Integrated Water Resource Management etc. to contribute in fulfilling the target of Nepal Government to provide basic water and sanitation facilities by 2017.

  • Providing technical knowledge and financial support in water, health and sanitation activities/services directly or through other nonprofit making agencies ( NGOs, CBOs and other development partners). 
  • Developing capacity of the individual and institutions in the sector to manage water , health and sanitation programs. 
  • Engaging in research and studies to enhance sectoral knowledge base and involving in research based deliberations and advocacy for policy reform. 
  • Collaborating with other agencies to leverage equitable and sustainable access to safe water , health and sanitation services. 
  • Supporting the state’s policies and other stakeholders programs to increase equitable and sustainable access to safe water, health and sanitation services.
