GHATGAUN 16TH VDC IN SURKHET TO ACHIEVE ODF

The people of Ghatgaun VDC of Surkhet District declared their area as Open Defecation Free (ODF) amidst a grand function on 15 July 2012 (31 Asadh 2069). Out of the 50 VDCs in Surkhet district this VDC is the 16th to achieve an ODF status.

The declaration programme was chaired by Hari Lal Regmi, Chief District Officer of Surkhet District and attended by special guests Rewati Ramam Parauli, Chief District Engineer of District Technical Office.  A large number of community people, VDC representatives and representatives of sector stakeholders, political parties, school teachers, students, and media were also part of this celebration.

Addressing the program Regmi congratulated the people of Ghatgaun and added, "It is my great pleasure to witness this joyous moment of one of the most remote VDC in the district achieving an ODF status." He praised the priority given and commitment shown by the people towards their sanitation campaign. The political party representatives present on the occasion also commended the effort of the people to bring their community to this state. They urged for the sustainability of the sanitation campaign and also committed themselves to lend a supporting hand.

Likewise Chief District Engineer Parajuli extending his best wishes to the people of Ghatgaun emphasized on the sustainability of their good hygiene and sanitation practices. During the program Mana Ballav Wagle of NEWAH also informed about the activities conducted in the VDC to reach this stage and the great role played by the Female Community Health Volunteers in the VDC ODF facilitation process.
