5% of Nepal's population do not have access to water. These are communities especially settled on hilltops, and where water sources are located down / below. In 2012/13 NEWAH served three such communities gain access to water through water lifting pilot projects integrated with hygiene and sanitation activities.
In Haldekharka, Lekgaun VDC, Surkhet district, mid western Nepal the national electricity grid was used. In Bimire Khola, Risku VDC and Hardeni VDC, Udayapur district, eastern Nepal solar power and local micro hydro power was used respectively to pump water up to these hill communities.
