Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH) held its 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on January 28, 2021, in Kathmandu. The AGM elected a new seven-member Executive Committee for the next two years. Prof. Kapil Shrestha was elected the Chairperson, Ms. Manjuri Singh the Vice-Chairperson with Mr. Mukunda Prasad Neupane as Treasurer and Ms. Rekha Tulachan as the Member Secretary. The other elected Executive Committee members are Mr. Bijay Pant, Mr. Ramkaji Koney and Ms. Ratna Kumari Shrestha.
Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH) is a country's leading NGO working in the water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion (WASH) sector. It was established in 1992 with a vision of a prosperous and harmonious Nepal where every citizen, irrespective of gender, class, caste, and belief, is able to realize their right to safe drinking water and hygienic sanitation. In the past 28 years, NEWAH has reached over 2.1 million people through more than 2,400 projects ranging from rural drinking water supply and health, hygiene, and sanitation promotion to integrated water resources management and 3R (recharge, retention, and reuse), disaster, and emergency response and sustainable livelihood promotion. Projects are implemented by the Water and Sanitation Users Committee with financial contribution from local government backed up by NEWAH’s financial and technical assistance. NEWAH is also actively involved in research and publication to enhance sectoral knowledge and advocacy to secure people's right to WASH. It has collaborated with the government at all levels, CBOs, and a range of international NGOs, bi and multi-lateral agencies, charities, and philanthropic foundations. NEWAH’s contribution to WASH in Nepal has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, notably the 2001 Environmental Prize from the Ministry of Population and Environment and the 2013 Stars Impact Award from Stars Foundation UK. It currently operates in selected municipalities/rural municipalities in Kavre, Sindhuli and Baglung districts through two Provincial offices located in Sindhuli and Baglung districts and maintains 88 full-time staff. Its headquarters is located in Lohasal, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Ward No. 4 and Mr. Umesh Kumar Pandey is its Director.
