Er. Sanjiv Kumar Thapa is a civil engineer and WASH specialist with more than 17 years of professional experience, including over 12 years dedicated to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). Originally from Dailekh, Karnali Province, he has devoted his career to improving water supply, sanitation facilities, and community resilience across Nepal.
He holds an M.Sc. in Disaster Risk Engineering and Management, a Master’s degree in Sociology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, giving him a unique blend of technical, social, and risk-management expertise. His career spans government service, humanitarian response, and development organizations such as LWF Nepal, UEMS, Tearfund, UNICEF-supported programs, and USAID Nepal Engineering Services.
Er. Thapa has spent a significant part of his career at Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH), where he served in various technical leadership roles, including Technical Coordinator (WASH). He contributed to water supply design, WASH plan preparation, climate-resilient programming, and capacity building for provincial and municipal teams. He also served as NEWAH’s focal person for WASH cluster coordination, climate change, disaster risk management, and sensor-based water system monitoring.
His work reflects a strong commitment to quality engineering, inclusive development, and sustainable WASH services. Whether supporting local governments, designing water systems, or strengthening community capacity, Er. Thapa continues to advocate for safe, resilient, and community-owned WASH solutions that improve lives across Nepal.
